Set against the stunning backdrop of the Northern Rivers—with pristine beaches, rolling hills, lush rainforests, and vibrant bohemian culture—Byron Writers Festival is celebrated for its unique atmosphere and sense of place. Yet its visual identity and communications had fallen short, failing to capture this magic. Key year-round initiatives were overlooked, and an unresponsive website left both the team and community disconnected. With arts funding under tighter scrutiny, it became imperative to clearly articulate the festival’s impact and principles from the very first impression.
We redefined the festival’s identity and digital presence to mirror the immersive experience of the event and its region. We refreshed the icon by integrating narrative-driven elements, such as a bookmark tail and a hidden quotation mark within the 'b', injecting a renewed sense of storytelling into the mark. The new identity, combined with a responsive website, integrated social media, and updated printed marketing, now clearly articulates the festival’s mission and purpose—ensuring every first impression resonates with both loyal patrons and a new generation of literature enthusiasts.
